no concrete, no anchors, no aluminum footings; just a semi-hard rubber bottle
stopper with a screw through the middle.

Here is
#14 upside down with #15 already installed. It is not centered; rather, it
was positioned according to where it would contact the ground.

These posts
are not for support as much as they are there to keep that part of the deck
steady as they carry incidental weight passing overhead.

The idea
is to minimize the impact of these posts on the bedrock that they come in
contact with.

The
bedrock is just soft enough that aluminum footings would have gradually
chewed away at it; hopefully, these guys won't. Time will tell.
